Last week I had the opportunity to meet with a group of veterans who were serious about finding solutions to their health problems. In the course of their military service, many of these men and women have experienced physical, mental, and emotional traumas. The effects of these traumas have persisted through years, even decades for some.
From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression & anxiety to chronic pain and degenerative disease, our veterans experience more than their share of chronic health conditions that impact their day-to-day life. In some cases, these health problems leave them disabled in one degree or another. After years of treatment by means of prescription drugs and surgery, many veterans are now looking outside the box for answers to their ills. To their credit, the VA charged with caring for our veterans’ health and well-being has become increasingly willing to fund alternative therapies, including the course on health and wellness I was a part of last week!
I talk a lot about essential oils, and that is because of the results I’ve seen with them. I don’t believe they are a panacea. Nothing is. But I have a firm belief that essential oils can fill in some of the gaping holes in our current health care system both for veterans and everyone else as well!
Essential Oils for Veteran’s Health Issues
For Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), I recommend Sacred Frankincense oil. I also recommend it for depression and anxiety. A recent small-scale study found that 12 of 12 subjects who inhaled Sacred Frankincense for 5 minutes per day for 30 days were able to go off antidepressants for the PTSD. All 12 of them had brain scans done before and after, and each showed significant changes in their brain wave activity. There is science that explains these results.
Sacred Frankincense is a special variety of frankincense, Boswellia sacra, from Oman that has a superior ability to go through the blood-brain barrier and help balance the emotions through a recently-discovered compound called “incensole acetate”. Israeli scientist Arieh Moussaieff made waves in the scientific community when he discovered that incensole acetate from Sacred Frankincense appears to trigger an ion channel in parts of the brain involved in emotions. He found that incensole acetate had anti-anxiety properties and significantly improved mood in the study.
There are a number of other essential oils that can also be extremely helpful for PTSD, anxiety, and depression including Trauma Life, Peace & Calming, Brain Power, and Joy. These oils can be used through direct inhalation, application on the temples, brain stem area, forehead (Brain Power & Trauma Life), shoulders, feet (Peace & Calming & Trauma Life), and also over the heart (Joy).
For chronic pain, which many of our veterans deal with on a daily basis, I recommend PanAway and/or peppermint essential oils. The oils help stamp out inflammation and are proven in studies to help get rid of pain. Apply them straight or diluted on site. For larger surface areas, dilute to help the oil spread over the area. For full-body pain, I also recommend soaking in Epsom Salts. Massage diluted PanAway oil into the muscles immediately after the bath.
I also highly recommend NingXia Red and a diet high in fresh produce and low in processed foods for all of these problems to minimize inflammation throughout the entire body.

We owe it to our veterans to provide them with the tools they need to heal. And for those of us who understand the importance of preparedness, we owe it to ourselves to keep these things in mind as post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression are projected to cause massive suffering in an economic collapse.

Testimonials –
“I have dealt with anxiety from PTSD most of my life and have found little that really helps. Tried everything from meditation to herbal formulas with some relief. I have started using Peace & Calming during the day (use it at night for sleep and it is great), along with Trauma Life, Brain Power and Joy. What a difference! I start feeling calmer, more grounded and in a better frame of mind almost immediately.”

“I have chronic back, neck and shoulder pain from old injuries with the shoulder injuries required surgical repair on both of them. PanAway blend from Young Living has allowed me to manage the chronic discomfort. The great advantage of the oil vs medication is it can be re-applied whenever the pain occurs instead of waiting for it to be time to take the next dose of analgesic.”

I have to concur on this. I was diagnosed with PTSD about a year ago, and was able to get off the meds using Joy oil. As good or better than I was on the med, with no side effect.
