In recent years, studies have revealed that the flu shot is neither effective nor safe.  Research shows that the flu vaccine only really works for people with strong immune systems — people who don’t really need the vaccine to begin with.  The flu vaccine appears to be ineffective for the elderly, the very young, and people with compromised immune systems who are at greater risk for complication with the flu.  Overall, only an estimated 1 out of 100 people who take the flu vaccine actually receive any benefit from it.  Second, there are a number of toxic substances in flu shots — mercury, aluminum, and antibiotics to name a few.

Truly, the flu shot should go the way of blood-letting, lobotomies, and electroshock therapy.  There are better options that are much more effective and come with virtually zero risk.

1.  Vitamin D

Vitamin D was first discovered in 1923 in cod liver oil.  Besides cod liver oil, natural sources of vitamin D include sunlight exposure, salmon (especially wild-caught), tuna, sole, flounder, eggs, beef liver, and shitake mushrooms. Vitamin D is also found in fortified milk and cereals.

Vitamin D is essential for optimal immune function, and low levels of vitamin D are associated with higher rates of cold and flu.  Insufficient sunlight exposure, particularly in the winter, is likely one of the reasons  people are more prone to the flu in the winter months.
