Right now I’m holed up in a hostel in Lima, Peru hoping to make tonight’s flight back into the U.S.! We didn’t make last night’s flight, and tonight’s flight is iffy as well. I guess this is the price to pay for international travel using buddy passes!
Please pray that my friends and I can get back as soon as possible!
On my flight from Atlanta to Lima 2 weeks ago I watched a movie called “The Impossible” that made a huge impact on me. I had never heard of it before, and I wanted to share it with you because it is a true story about a family who was on vacation in Thailand and was caught in the 2004 tsunami. I had a quite emotional response to this movie, and it caused me to consider how I would personally deal with a disaster like this.
Last year I wrote an article about how one woman in Japan used essential oils in the Japan tsunami aftermath primarily for hygiene and stress relief for people at government shelters. Today I wanted to share how I would have used essential oils for the people in “The Impossible” had I been a relief worker at one of the hospitals.
In “The Impossible” one of the main characters, a 10 or 11-year old boy, does what he can in a hospital to help. In this article I share what I would want to do to help. By sharing how to use essential oils for some of the very severe issues people experienced in the southeast Asia tsunami I am in no way trivializing the fact that some of these people would need more than just essential oils. But I know the difference oils can make and would like to share!
Essential Oils for Severe Injuries of Characters in the Movie “The Impossible”
Lacerated body parts — I would clean the wound with boiled water and iodine or a few drops of lavender oil. Then I would apply an oatmeal/Thieves poultice like my friend Sue Heath described using at a primitive clinic in Africa for people with foot wounds. Apply a paste of oatmeal and several drops of Thieves oil over the lacerations then wrap with clean cotton bandages. Change daily.
Natural antibiotic — Besides using the oils topically, I would give a few drops each of Thieves, oregano, and frankincense oils in gelatin capsules diluted with a carrier oil (ie olive oil) orally up to every 2 hours to people in danger of infection.
Gangrene — I would prefer to use the oils often as directed above in order to attempt prevention of gangrene. But in the event that gangrene still developed, I would use Thieves
If I had them on hand, I would use the essential oils in the Raindrop kit on the feet and/or spine to further boost the immune system.
Emotional Trauma — I would diffuse or apply Trauma Life and/or Valor oils to the feet, shoulders, and heads of people experiencing trauma.
Toxemia — Purification could be used up to every few minutes under the tongues of people with toxemia or blood poisoning.
Pain Relief — PanAway and peppermint oils are my two favorite go-to pain relieving essential oils. They can be applied topically where the pain is, and PanAway can also be taken under the tongue or in capsules for pain in a pinch.
If I had frankincense, copaiba, and Idaho balsam fir on hand, I would combine 5 drops of each of them in a gelatin capsule — this is referred to as the essential oil “morphine bomb” — and give every few hours or as needed. These oils can also be used topically for pain.
In addition to these essential oils, I would also want to have colloidal silver, cayenne, and comfrey on hand as they would also be indispensable. I would use cayenne to help stop bleeding, and comfrey poultices also for wounds. I would use colloidal silver in wounds and internally to boost immune function.
If you would like to take a look at the trailer for “The Impossible”, take a look here. Be prepared to get a little choked up!
It’s impossible to be 100% prepared to effectively handle all wounds that could occur in a natural disaster, but we can at least do our part! Thank you for letting me share what I believe my part is!
