Slammed by a Twister — What Next?
Do you live in “tornado alley”? The recent tornadoes throughout the south and Midwest and resulting 39+ deaths are yet another wake-up call that disasters happen. While not all fatalities from tornadoes may be preventable, much can be done to prevent suffering and promote healing in the event of mild, moderate, and even some severe injuries.
Some injuries are severe and seeking immediate attention from a doctor is the wisest choice. But whether or not an injury is severe, sometimes medical help is not immediately available.
How can you be prepared to handle injuries from tornadoes, and be the person in your family and your community with the knowledge and tools to reduce misery and possibly even save someone’s life?? Besides busted windows, caved-in walls, and damaged roofs, even if you survive a tornado unscathed, if you are prepared you may be able to do much to help any injured people around you.
Most Common Injuries From Tornadoes –
Of course, everybody knows that a good first-aid kit is a must-have for preparedness purposes. A first aid kit with various sizes of bandages, medical tape, and etc… is completely essential for medical preparedness. But keep reading to learn why you’ll need more than a first-aid kit for maximal medical preparedness. Alcohol disinfecting pads, Bacitracin ointment, and aspirin tablets might be of some use in the event of injuries from tornadoes and other disasters, but you and I both know that if someone’s bone is sticking out of their arm, or they were hit in the head with flying debris and have a serious concussion, they are going to need a heck of a lot more than just that!
1. Soft tissue injuries
The most common type of injury from tornadoes are soft tissue injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, and contusions. Besides risk of death due to bleeding, infection rate for soft tissue wounds inflicted during natural disasters is high because of wound contamination by debris and bacteria.
One of the most powerful things to have on hand for wounds is therapeutic-grade lavender oil as it can stop the bleeding, disinfect, and dramatically speed up the healing. Apply directly on site. Our lavender oil is pure, concentrated, and guaranteed to help with wounds — whether the wound is sustained in an earthquake, a tornado, or other disaster, or just in day-to-day living. Purification, Thieves, and frankincense oils (also in the Essential Oil Survival Kit) can also help to disinfect and speed the healing.
2. Fractures/dislocations
While it’s always best to seek medical help for fractures or suspected fractures, there is much you can do to help with pain and inflammation from breaks and dislocations and to speed healing. Apply PanAway oil on site immediately following the injury and on the way to the ER if available. Peppermint and lavender are also great anti-inflammatory oil to use in conjunction with the PanAway. The wintergreen oil in PanAway has properties that help speed the healing of bone tissue in addition to helping to control pain.
For severe pain PanAway can be taken as needed internally in homemade capsules diluted with olive oil.
3. Brain injuries –
The third most common type of injury from tornadoes is injury of the brain such as concussion. In addition to medical assistance if available, frankincense oil can be used as it is one of the most powerful substances on the planet that can help heal the brain. It is high in natural compounds called sesquiterpenes that are able to penetrate deep into the brain, oxygenate the tissue, and even help to regulate neurotransmitters. Therapeutic-quality peppermint oil may also be of some use to healing brain inflammation and trauma as well due its powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Apply a couple of drops each of frankincense and peppermint oils to the brain stem area, the temples, the tips of the big toes, and on the soft palate in the mouth by putting the oils on the thumb and rubbing the thumb on the palate. Repeat 3-5x/day or as needed while also following a doctor’s advice.
***Warning — using perfume-grade (cheap) essential oils will not only NOT give you these kinds of results, but you could even cause more damage***
Only use essential oils that specify they are safe for internal use — otherwise, you cannot expect these kinds of results!!
One of the best things about getting prepared for injuries from tornadoes with the Essential Oil Survival Kit is that you are also prepared to handle hundreds of other injuries, health problems, and more at the very same time. ________________________________________________________________
Testimonials –
“Last summer my hubby was gored by a bull horn, a rip about 5 inches long and 1/2 inch deep at the bottom, tapering out to surface, in the left buttock. I did NOT take him to the ER for stitches or a Tetanus shot. . . I ran to the house while Harold lay on the grass in backyard, almost passed out from the bull gouge. What came to me was ‘lavender, frankincense, and PanAway‘.
I poured in those oils freely, then pulled the wound together and placed strips of surgical tape across the open wound. I dropped the essential oils in between the strips of tape, morning and evening, and covered the entire thing with ointment and fresh gauze. He was up working the next day, however, when he sat down, he sat on one ‘cheek’ for about 2 weeks. His wound closed beautifully, and there is barely a visible scar now.”

“I was playing tennis and took a dive into the tennis court and heard a snap in my ankle. It immediately bruised and swelled up and was sore but I was able to bear some weight on it so I went home put some PanAway, lavender, Peppermint and ice on my ankle and elevated it with ice. It felt so much better after that.
A couple days later decided to get it x-rayed and found it was indeed fractured. A piece of the tibia was broken off. My doctor told me to put an air splint on my leg and was going to give me a prescription for pain pills. I told her I did not need them because the oils were taking care of the pain. 4 days later I am working and am able to walk carefully because of these wonderful oils!”

“Back in December I was hit by a bus and sustained such a serious injury to my brain that I even lost my ability to speak. The doctors told me it would be several months at best before I could expect to function normally, and that I even might not fully recover!
I began putting a drop of frankincense and peppermint from my Essential Oil Survival Kit on the roof of my mouth a few times per day. The taste was intense, I admit. But everyone has been amazed at my recovery!! Within a couple of weeks my speech was mostly back. Less than a couple of months later and I am fully functional with a full recovery of my speech!”
